Articulation/Phonology

Articulation therapy is a specialized form of therapy conducted by speech pathologists to help individuals improve their ability to produce clear and understandable speech sounds. Through various techniques and exercises, the speech pathologist targets specific speech sound errors and works with the individual to correct them. The speech pathologist may use a combination of auditory, visual, and tactile cues to facilitate accurate production of sounds.

Expressive Language

Expressive language therapy is a specialized approach provided by speech pathologists to individuals who have difficulty expressing themselves effectively through language. This therapy aims to enhance their ability to communicate thoughts, ideas, and emotions clearly and coherently. Speech pathologists use various techniques, such as vocabulary expansion, sentence structure, and grammar to help clients develop stronger expressive language skills.

Receptive Language

Receptive language therapy focuses on improving an individual's ability to understand spoken language. Through various techniques and exercises, the therapist aims to enhance the individual's receptive language skills, such as following directions, understanding vocabulary, and processing complex sentences. This therapy is beneficial for individuals who struggle with understanding and interpreting verbal information or individuals with language processing disorders.

Social Skills/Pragmatic Language

Social skills therapy focuses on improving communication and interaction abilities. This specialized therapy targets individuals who may struggle with understanding social cues, engaging in conversations, and problem-solving. Through various techniques and exercises, the speech-language pathologist helps individuals develop effective communication strategies, such as active listening, turn-taking, and nonverbal communication skills, enabling them to build meaningful and lasting relationships in their lives.

Fluency/Stuttering

Fluency therapy is a specialized treatment aimed at helping individuals overcome their speech fluency or stuttering difficulties. Speech pathologists employ a variety of techniques and strategies to address the individual's feelings and attitudes toward stuttering, the stuttering itself along with associated behaviors, and thoughts related to stuttering. Speech-language pathologists may use a combination of breathing and tension-reducing techniques along with reducing any anxiety associated with speaking.

Academic Support/Tutoring

Academic support/tutoring is offered to support students in language-based subject areas. Reading tutoring may include support with phonological awareness (blending, segmenting, rhyming) and reading comprehension skills. Writing tutoring may include support with pre-writing skills, word choice, grammar, and structuring sentences, paragraphs, and essays. Other academic support includes how to take notes containing salient information and general homework help in subjects that are language based.
